what I learned about summaries

Summary writing doesn't have to be a scary.

When doing summary writing in the past most of my teachers just wanted the class to write a brief description of what happened in general. They wanted the general over view. And of course, the use of present tense was needed. In this class I have learned that summaries can be longer than just a paragraph or a page. In your summary you can write a “play-by-play” of what is going on. The big picture is still important, but so are the details. In this case, what is going on in the documentary film.

  1. I love the picture you used in this post. I get a bit intimidated by summary writing because I feel there is just so much detail that can go in to it that can be easily missed. My personal struggle is not taking a bias towards a certain side in a summary. Good luck with your documentary summary!

  2. I can see where summary writing can get scary. When I started writing my paper I kind of just stared at my screen and went "uhhh..." for about 5 minutes. It's super intimidating when talking about summaries the common idea tends to be just a paragraph long really summed up version of the topic.

I find it to be a hard balance between making a paper sound professional, and not going " and then this happened, and this happened and this happened." Everything gets easier with practice though!
